The World Inside by Robert Silverberg

world inside

Doubleday and Company, 1971. Book club edition.

Hugo Award-nominated

In 2381, crime is extinct, endless reproduction is the highest good, and humans live in enormous 1000-floor skyscrapers. Silverberg’s book— more a series of vignettes than a novel— introduces (and seduces) us to its world through its happiest citizens but gradually focuses in on a few mentally ill detractors who face either forceful reprogramming or execution.
