Being a knitter (and a lover of children’s books) I was drawn to the cover of this book. Look at all the knit and perl stitches across the front. What could this be about? How exciting!
Extra Yarn is the sweet tale of Annabelle who lives in a winter world of black and white. One day she finds a box of colorful yarn and knits herself and her dog a sweater.
Annabelle continues to knit from this never-ending box of yarn until she has made her whole world, even a pickup truck, bright and colorful. She knits for her family, her classmates, all the animals, trees and the buildings. Her box of yarn continues to supply her with beautiful colors and possibilities.
One day an evil archduke sails across the sea to find Annabelle and her magical box of yarn. He offers to buy it from her but Annabelle is not intersted. The evil archduke resorts to stealing the box. But never fear, there is a happily ever after.
This is a beautifully written and illustrated tale of possibilities. It speaks to what is possible if you can only imagine and how can you use your imagination to change the world around you. Through kindness and generosity Annabelle is able to make her world a happy and colorful place.
Now, if only I could find a box of never-ending yarn…
